Observation
9:30 -9:50 am
All kids were dropped at a drop off point, where both Educator and Co- Educator were waiting for them. The Class Helper was there too. All the three ladies were greeting Good Morning to each child on their arrival. Today was a special occasion as The lord Ganpati maha-arti was to be conducted so all children were dressed in traditional clothes.
When all children reached, they were lined up in a row and were taken to their assembly room. The Co-educator led them and the class helper were overseeing them from the middle. The main educator was following them in the last, asking them to walk in a line.
On upon reaching to the assembly room and they lined up their water bottle in a neat row outside the room and then entered the assembly room.
They lined up in assembly room for their morning prayers and all were adhering to the directions given by their educators. They all greeted Head Mistress and were instructed to greet their class helper too with Namaste.
Then they were asked to sit at their places. Now few kids seems to have lost interest and started talking with themselves. The educators came to them and asked them softly to look forward.
Another Educator came and told them the story of Lord Ganesh. Few children were trying to say something about the story. They were listened and their thoughts were acknowledged.
The Head Mistress too interacted with them in last.
They all got up and were made to form a single line and were escorted outside the class. They all picked up their respective water bottles and walked up to their class room.
Analysis
Welcoming each child makes them feel important. This way the educators were trying to inculcate the social skill of greeting upon meeting.
These pre-school kids have been taught to arrange their bottles neatly outside before entering a room and they were doing it without much assistance. They are learning discipline.
The story telling session about Lord Ganesh was to create awareness about the tradition. Which again enhances the kid's social development.
9:50- 10:20 am
The kids sat on a floor mat. This is their attendance time. The co-educator asked kids to settle down and not to talk. The main teacher took attendance. One child was asked to speak "Present" as he just raised his hand
She introduced the name of month September and taught the kids the day and date of the day.
Kids were again reminded of Ganpati festivities.
Make them repeat the day and its spelling. Also talked about Marathi month Bhadrpad.
Flashcard activity- The kids recalled the Alphabets A-J along with the phonic sound.
A new letter K was introduced along with phonics. few children were distracted, their attention was drawn by calling their name. The concept of hot was recalled while teaching kids K for kettle.
Now the Class helper took the girls to the washroom.
Mean while the educators were showing the kids their family photographs and were recalling the relations like mother, father from the topic "family"
When girls came back, the boys went out to washroom escorted by Helper. The educators continued with the topic family.
Analysis
This activity session was planned to developing language skills of children and went of well as the interest of children was kept up. The educators kept the children involved at most of the time of the session.
The helper supervised the toileting and it went off without any conflict.
10:25 - 10:35 am
The educators drew attention of all kids by asking them to do some hand actions like shake you hands, stretch them up and fold your hands.
She now asked children about their choice of poem/ song to start this session.
They sang few songs and were reminded about the hand movements while clapping for Ganpati Aarti.
They all were lined up in the class and were escorted to the puja area.
Analysis
The activity time was short but the educator was able to kept the children engrossed in the activity.
Since, the children were asked about their opinion for the activity, this might have boosted their confidence to make choices. This made them feel important.
10:35- 11:10 am
They whole school performed aarti and chanted some mantras. Few children of this class were reciting along with others and were doing the clapping routine as guided by the educator earlier.
The arti ended by a loud chant of "Ganpati bappa Moriya".
After the pooja, all kids were asked to sit at their places and wait for their turn for photo session. There was a slight commotion as the kids were restless. A girl started crying and she was taken away from the group and the Co-teacher was trying to soothe her.
They had a photo session with Head Mistress and the Class teachers, Had the Prasad and were escorted back to class.
Analysis
This Arti session was a good experience for children to learn about our culture and traditions. All the children had fun reciting the "Ganpati Bappa Moriya" Chant.
While waiting for their turn for photograph session the kids were restless probably because it was almost their snack time. If their photo session was completed before other senior classes this could have been avoided.
The girl who started crying had recently joined the school therefore the teachers were giving her extra attention.
11:10- 11:30 am
This is their snack time. the kids sat in circular on the floor on mat and were asked to recite few prayers by teachers.
Meanwhile the class helper laid down the plates and then started serving snacks to all kids. the teachers rotated a bowl full of spoons and kids took one each for themselves. The helper sat in the middle and all were eating their food on their own.
Few kids wanted another helping and they were made to say "please give me some more" and "Thank you" once served.
After finishing their snacks they were gathered outside the class for water and some free play.

They were asked to say kind words like Please and Thank you to develop the sense of kindness and empathy.
The food was served in just quantities so that there is minimum wastage.
They were send out for sometime after snacks for some free play on their own.
11:30 -12:00
This was story telling session. The story was about a Parrot. as the kids were called off from playful activities, so to ensure there attention teacher asked them to follow her free hand actions and lastly asked them to fold their hands and put finger on their lips.
The teacher was telling the story along with few hand action and asking few questions from children. The children too seem to be participating well.
Teacher was repeating few word like flying, green, parrot, guava, hungry , crow, big , black etc. with emphasis on each syllable.
she was pointing the book and asking few question and children were forthcoming in answering them. She was also explaining the story in Marathi.
While this whole activity the co-teacher was ensuring that all kids participate.
The song and poem session followed with the story telling session where most of the songs were on flying and birds.
This was followed by poems on names of fingers and family members.
At last they all recited the send off poem and sat at their place to wait for their guardians to pick them up.
Analysis
The children enjoyed this session very much and were imitating most of the actions performed by the teachers. Story telling session was for the development of language and the question answer session in between was to develop cognitive abilities.
The teacher was repeating the story in Marathi too so as to make kids more comfortable as there were many kids who use Marathi as their first language.
Each child was seen off with a smile. This ensured to make kids loved and wanted.
Conclusion
The day went fairly well. The emphasis was more on development of language and
social skills. The Story telling session about Lord Ganesh, the maha aarti ritual made children aware about the cultural traditions.
